How To Focus
Mar 25, 2024If you’re struggling to focus, the solution is not to try to focus.
The solution is to remove the distractions that don’t allow you to focus, and say “no” more often.
What’s easier, losing weight with a fridge that has pizza, ice cream and doughnuts?
Or…
A fridge that only had eggs, steak and avocado?
The second option.
You basically don’t have any other option than to eat well 80% of the time.
You force the outcome to happen.
Same happens with focus.
If you’re looking for a solution or method to focus, but your life is full of distractions, then it will be like trying to lose weight with a fridge full of temptations.
It’s difficult to focus when you’re getting dopamine hits from activities that give you absolutely no benefit at all.
It’s difficult to focus when your brain is foggy and constantly overthinking every part of your life, or other people’s lives.
It’s difficult when you’re doing too many things at the same time.
First work or removing the distractions, and the focus naturally comes.
Some of these will most likely be:
- Social media
- Video games
- Netflix
- Friends
- Tabs in your browser
- Getting out of Whatsapp groups
Etc…
Only you know what distracts you.
And in most cases, it will be difficult to quit those things, because those things give you dopamine.
When you remove distractions, you will notice how you can get into a state of “Deep Focus Work”, where you can get more done in 2 hours than in 6 hours.
Making money doesn’t take much time if you can focus.
Making money takes a lot of time if you don’t focus.
Something that’s super simple and really helps is to write down in a physical notebook is:
- What matters to you
- What are the things that move the needle
- What has the top urgency and priority
Something I also ask myself is:
Is this a $1M per month task?
Meaning…
Will executing this task be directly related with making $1M per month?
For most tasks, the answer is a solid no.
Which forces me to dedicate more time to high leverage activities.
Focus and your life will change.
